We're in the part of the year where there's probably two or so stations in your city that are playing nothing but Christmas music through the big day December 25th. Each city has its usual suspects. 106.7 Lite FM in New York, 93.9 Lite FM in Chicago, and B-101 in Philadelphia. Some other stations will stunt as Santa stations up until 12/25 only to debut new formats. Look up KJR-FM 95.7 in Seattle and KOSY "Today's 106.5" in Salt Lake City. There are two rather interesting changes that have been rumored to take place according to Radio-Insight.com. KEZK 102.5 (CBS Radio) is reported to be flipping to a "Fresh" station as Fresh 102.5 will debut on KEZK-FM after the holidays are done. This is a mistake in my opinion from CBS. Wherever Fresh has gone, Fresh has failed. If only their ratings were as Fresh as their brand, perhaps they'd succeed. They haven't wherever they've gone. 102.7 in New York, 105.9 in Chicago, and 94.7 in Washington, DC have all been failures in my opinion. The only thing Fresh stations are famous for is the runneth-off-at-the-mouth when it comes to their competing ACs in their markets. In the cases of Gotham, ChiTown, and the District, all of their heritages ACs are Clear Channel stations (97.1 WASH-FM in DC). The one in Chicago needs to flip to Active Rock. The biggest mistake the Fresh stations make is brainwashing radio listeners into thinking that they're a Hot AC when they're really an AC in disguise. Only the 70's and 80's portions of AC aren't in as heavy as rotation as they are for most Soft Rockers. KLOU "Rewind 103.3" and Variety Hits "106.5 The Arch" are expected to play more soft rock. It is also possible that their sister-in-crime, Y98 (Hot AC) would transition into a Top 40 station to better compete with Clear Channel's Z-107.7 (CHR). I'm disappointed at what WHDR 93.1 in Miami is planning on doing. Reportedly, they've settled on changing formats to "Easy 93.1" which will lean Soft AC ala Magic 94.9 in Tampa. I was really hoping that they'd change formats to Party (Dance-CHR) which is on their HD-2 since Miami is a "Party"-kinda town. The news that they'd change to Adult Contemporary stunned me also since Cox already owned one AC--97.3 The Coast WFLC. They could do what Magic 94.9 and 105.5 The Dove do well in Tampa. Magic leans younger while the Dove borderlines on being Oldies. The target is of course WLYF 101.5 Lite FM owned by Lincoln Financial. Perhaps Christmas at 93.1 is about to become a regular occurrence for the ex-Bubba affiliate. They, Lite, and 93.9 MIA have all taken their talents to the North Pole. Your Opinion...?
